  • TAILS FOR WHALES

Tails for Whales started in 2008 as a project to deliver 551 photos to the Australian Government as a way to petition them to keep up the pressure on Japan to stop whaling.

We put the call out to the world and within a couple of days we had our 551 photos, so we decided to keep going.

Within a week the idea had appeared on blogs all over the world, including TrendHunter and supermodel Gisele Bundshen's personal page. And the momentum was just beginning.

Now in its fourth year, Tails for Whales has become a global phenomenon. It has been supported by Australian and international celebrities including Daniel Johns, Twiggy, Pierce Brosnan, Kristin Bauer, Amber Valetta, Nikki Webster, Gyton Grantley and Christine Anu.

In 2009, we captured the photos of every member of British Parliament. In 2010 the campaign appeared on US TV and featured on the catwalks of New York Fashion week.

As a petition it has been presented to the Australian Government as a large format photo book.

As a campaign it has collected multiple awards and won Republic co-founder Ben Peacock an IFAW Action Award, an honour he shares with Jamie Oliver.
